**Bluegrass Literacy  is an Adult Literacy Provider in Lexington and adjacent counites in Central Kentucky.  We offer FREE literacy programming for Adults; both English-as-a Second Language and Adult Basic Learners.  The program also offers and GED Study Supportfor ages 15+ in various locations in Lexington. 

An outreach literacy provider we take our English Classes, Reading Instruction, and LITERACY BLOOMS "service learning" projct sessions  into the community where learners live and work. (Current "Open or "Walk-In" English Classes" v.FALL/09,  with space for new students are listed on the SERVICES PAGE of this website.

A volunteer agency we work in collaboration with a number of affiliates: Outreach at The Lexington Public Library, GOODWILL INDUSTRIES, The Living Arts and Science Center, Partners for Youth, The Kentucky Women's Foundation, Mission House - The Lexington Episcopal Diocese, Cardinal Crossings Community Center, several domestic abuse centers,Bethel Centro Hispano Comunitario,5th Third Bank, Maxwell Street Legal Clinic, KY Refugee Ministires, LIGHTHOUSE Ministries, CENTRAL CHRISTIAN CHURCH, Pro-Literacy America, VALUE (The Voice of Adult Learners United for Education), and The Carnegie Center VISTA Network. We also provide English Class instruction on a number of Thoroughbred farms in the Bluegrass.

 Fall into Winter Spanish Class Schedule:

BLUEGRASS LITERACY

SPANISH Classes 09 FALL CHEDULE  (taking new students)

SPANISH  are conversation based experiences for native English speakers wanting to learn another language

  • Beg and Intermediate to Advanced Level

Spanish Classes meet on Monday evenings 6:30-7:30 p.m. weekly at Southern Hills Methodist Church-Harrodsburg Rd-enter class via Education Building entrance.

 Fall  Tuesday night classes for BEG Level Spanish located in Cardinal Crossings Apt complex.  1346 Village Dr. D7. Use red door in first parking lot next to leasing office stairs of apt complex. Center is inside the apt complex. The center is accessed via a red door at top of stairs inside at #D7.  

Call Elaine 559 8030  to be added to these classes for fall/winter.  These on-going classes meet though week of Nov 20th and resume after winter holiday break (second week in January 2010) . Clases have a converstaion focus and we ask a $5 donation per session.

General Spanish & Russian Classes are open to ages 15 through Adult years. Our child/youth Spanish Classes are only scheduled during the summer schedule or for Home School or Church Groups during day hours at other times of the year. There is a $5 donation asked all Spanish Class participants.

Do you need community service experience?

We also provide some credit options for college or grad students under counselor/ professor approval for various projects each semester.  If you want to work on a social service project in the community or plan to be an educator this is a good way to explore the role and serve in the community while you are still in college.
